Good questions, clear answers
A little more
about Frame.
What works, what to expect, and where your photos go.
How can I install Frame?
Frame is currently in internal testing on Google Play. Only invited testers can access it, using the Google account that received the invitation. The Play link may be unavailable to other accounts. There is no public sign-up or public release yet.
Does Frame work offline or need an account?
The local gallery, image viewer, video player, editor, photo widgets and live wallpaper work without creating a Frame account. Your library stays on your device. Optional address lookups and links to other apps or websites may use external services.
Does Frame upload my photos?
Frame does not upload your photo library to the developer or a Frame cloud service. Sharing sends the files you choose to another app. When you open photo Details, saved coordinates may be passed to Android’s geocoding provider for an address; opening Maps passes coordinates to the selected maps app.
Which Android versions are supported?
Frame supports Android 9 Pie (API 28) and later. Media permissions, available decoders and widget behavior vary with Android and your device. Wallpaper-based dynamic colors require Android 12 or later.
Can Frame play 4K video?
It can play compatible 4K videos when your device supports the file’s codecs, profile, frame rate and resolution. A 4K label alone does not guarantee smooth playback. Unsupported or damaged files show an error.
Can I open SVG, RAW or other specialty images?
Yes. Use Open with from a file manager for specialty formats that Android does not show in the gallery. Frame supports SVG/SVGZ and a broad range of raster and camera RAW formats, with limits listed on the Supported formats page.
Does editing replace my original photo?
No. The editor saves a separate JPEG copy. The original stays intact. The copy is a still image up to 4096 pixels / 8 megapixels, without location metadata; transparent areas become black.
How does Trash work?
Each item is kept for 30 days before automatic cleanup, subject to Android’s scheduling and storage behavior. You can restore it before deletion or permanently delete it after confirmation. Android 9 and 10 use private recovery copies; clearing Frame’s storage or uninstalling it removes those copies.
Are hidden photos encrypted?
No. Hiding removes an item from Frame’s main library. It does not encrypt, password-protect or prevent other apps from accessing the underlying file.
Can widgets change photos automatically?
Yes. Each widget can use selected photos or a device folder, rotate from 15-minute intervals, and use shuffle. Android may delay updates. You can also swipe through the stack. Shape clipping and swipe behavior depend on your launcher.
Does Frame play music in the background?
Not currently. Local audio can be opened from a file manager and has playback controls and saved-position resume, but it pauses when the player leaves the foreground.
Are accounts, ads or a wallpaper store available?
They are not part of the current local app. This version has no Frame accounts, advertising, analytics SDK or in-app purchases. Future connected features will be documented, including any privacy changes, before they become available.
