This policy covers Frame: Gallery & Video player for Android (package com.trinadhthatakula.framegallery) and the Frame website. Frame is developed by Trinadh Thatakula. It describes the current local app, including the internal-testing version.
The short version
Your photos and videos are processed on your device. Frame does not upload your media library to the developer or a Frame cloud service. The current app does not have Frame accounts, advertising, in-app purchases, analytics SDKs or automatic crash reporting.
Some actions involve services outside Frame: address lookup uses Android’s Geocoder, sharing opens an app you choose, and links can open Maps, Files, Google Play, your email app or your browser. Their handling of information is described below.
Photos, videos and permissions
Frame asks Android for access to photos and videos so it can display your library, open media, show available metadata, edit copies and perform the file actions you choose. You can allow selected media on supported Android versions. Older versions use the corresponding storage permissions; Android 9 also requires write access for file changes.
On Android 13 and later, Frame requests READ_MEDIA_IMAGES for photos and READ_MEDIA_VIDEO for videos. Broad access supports its ongoing gallery and media-library functions, for these reasons:
Frame is a full-device gallery. READ_MEDIA_IMAGES lets it index photos, show folders and thumbnails, and keep the library current. System pickers grant only selected files and cannot support continuous browsing of the user's full photo library.
Frame is a gallery and local video player. READ_MEDIA_VIDEO lets it index videos, show folders and thumbnails, and keep the library current. System pickers grant only selected files, so they cannot provide an up-to-date view of all device videos.
Access is limited to the media you allow. Selected-media access can still be used on supported Android versions, but the gallery then shows only accessible items. Opening a single file from another app can use that file’s temporary grant. These alternatives do not provide a continuously updated view of your complete shared media library. Media access is used for local gallery functions, not to upload photo or video contents for advertising or analytics.
You can change or revoke access in Android Settings. Opening one file from another app can use a temporary permission for that file, without granting access to your entire library. Files offered by a third-party document provider may be supplied from that provider’s cloud service under its own policies.
Frame reads embedded photo location only when it is available and Android permits access. ACCESS_MEDIA_LOCATION is for coordinates already saved in a photo; Frame does not request live GPS location, microphone or camera access.
Information stored on your device
Frame stores local preferences, favorite and hidden-file references, collections, widget and wallpaper selections, and playback positions. It also creates bounded thumbnail caches, temporary decoding files and temporary copies of subtitle files you select. This information supports browsing, display and playback; it is not sent to a Frame server.
Hiding an item changes its visibility inside Frame. It does not encrypt the file or prevent other apps with permission from reading it. Your device’s screen lock and storage protections remain important.
Frame disables its Android app-data cloud backup and excludes its app data from Android’s configured device-transfer rules. Other apps and services that back up your shared photo library operate independently of Frame.
Photo addresses and Maps
When you open the Details tab for a photo with accessible saved coordinates, Frame can automatically ask Android’s Geocoder for an address. This request includes the photo’s latitude and longitude and the requested locale. Your device’s geocoding provider may send the request over its network service and may process network and device information under its own policy. No Frame-operated location server is used.
Address lookup can fail or be unavailable, in which case coordinates remain visible. Lookup results are cached only in memory: successful results for up to one hour and unsuccessful results for up to one minute, with a bounded cache. Frame does not save these resolved addresses in its library database.
Tapping the location passes the photo’s coordinates to the maps app you choose. The selected app may make its own network requests. These coordinates describe where the photo was taken, which may differ from your current location.
Retention, deletion and recovery
Cached thumbnails can be removed through Settings → Clear preview cache. Android may also remove cache files. Subtitle copies are temporary; the player removes its selected temporary file when it is released, and later imports clean up older leftovers.
Trash retains each item for 30 days before automatic cleanup. Android scheduling can delay background cleanup. On Android 11 and later, supported trash actions use Android’s system media trash and consent flow. Android 9 and 10 use recovery copies in Frame’s private app storage. You can restore an item before deletion or permanently delete it after confirmation.
Clearing Frame’s app storage or uninstalling it removes local settings, history, caches and private recovery copies. Restore anything you need from private Trash first. Uninstalling Frame does not delete ordinary originals and saved edits in shared media storage, and it does not itself empty Android’s system trash.
There is no Frame account or server-side media library to delete in the current version. You control local information through the app’s file actions and Android’s permission and storage settings.
Planned advertising and analytics identifiers
Frame declares com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID and com.android.vending.BILLING in its Android manifest in preparation for future advertising and Google Play purchases. These declarations do not themselves collect information or enable purchases. The Google Play Billing library is included for future purchase support, but Frame does not start a billing connection or offer purchases. The current local app does not read the Advertising ID, create an analytics app-instance ID, or include advertising or analytics SDKs.
Advertising and analytics remain planned features. In a future release, where available and permitted by your choices and applicable requirements, Frame may use Android’s resettable Advertising ID for advertising, marketing attribution and campaign measurement. The AD_ID permission does not grant access to your photos or videos.
A separate app-instance identifier may be used for analytics, such as understanding feature usage and app performance. It identifies an installation of Frame rather than permanent device hardware and will be kept separate from advertising identifiers. It will not be used as a replacement advertising identifier or to bypass an Advertising ID reset or deletion.
This plan does not use IMEI, device serial numbers, MAC addresses or Android ID for advertising tracking. Advertising ID resets, deletion and applicable advertising choices will be respected. Android’s settings and available controls vary by device and version.
Before these features collect or share information, this policy and the Google Play Data safety disclosures will be updated with the actual data collected, providers or recipients, retention periods and user controls. Any required disclosures and consent will be provided before collection begins. The current website does not collect these identifiers.
Visiting this website
The Frame website is a static site. It does not include advertising, embedded third-party players, analytics scripts, tracking pixels or third-party fonts. It does not upload files or ask you to create an account.
If you change the website’s light or dark theme, that choice is saved in your browser’s local storage under frame-site-theme. It is not sent to the developer. Clearing this site’s browser storage removes the choice. No cookies are set by the website’s application code.
The hosting provider must receive ordinary connection information to deliver and protect the site, such as your IP address, requested URL, browser information and request time. This site is hosted on Vercel; its privacy notice explains its processing and retention. If the domain is served through a Cloudflare proxy, Cloudflare can also process connection information under its own policy. These infrastructure logs are distinct from application analytics.
Links to Google Play, other apps, source materials and licensing pages take you to external services with their own privacy practices. Fonts, screenshots and other page assets are served by this site rather than requested from their original creators when you browse.
When you contact the developer
If you email trinadh.thatakula@gmail.com, the developer receives your email address and whatever information you choose to include, such as feedback, attachments or a diagnostic description. This is used to respond to you, investigate the issue and keep necessary support records. Avoid sending private photos or sensitive information unless you intend to share them.
Support correspondence is retained for as long as reasonably needed to handle the request, maintain relevant support records or meet legal obligations. You can use the same email address to request access, correction or deletion of information you have provided, subject to applicable requirements. Local app data is managed on your device and is not accessible to the developer through the app.
Children’s information
Frame has no account-registration or age-collection flow and does not intentionally collect children’s personal information through the app. If you believe a child has sent personal information to the developer through support, contact the address below so the request can be reviewed and the information removed where appropriate.
Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated when the app or website’s data practices change, with the revised date shown on this page. Future connected features, such as accounts or purchases, are not described as active features of this version. Their data practices will be disclosed before they become available, with any required notices or consent.
